Hi, welcome to pace of me!
Our number one priority with coaching all of our athletes is offering wholehearted support and professional guidance, applying our knowledge of and passion for the science of training and racing to each individual’s goals and needs. We believe that we perform our best when we are healthy and happy, and work hard to get to know each person we coach. This enables us to create training plans and paths to success that suit their lifestyles, challenge them to grow and also encourage them to seek and discover a deeper sense of fulfillment they might not have known was possible throughout the process. Personal run coaching is about running and so much more, just like the sport itself!

The Pace of Me coaching style is customized and personal. Our coaches care very much about the people we work with, applying our extensive knowledge and experience to guide each individual towards their goals through the ups and downs of running and life.

We are under a month away from kicking off our THIRD year of Summer Saturdays on the ATT!
We are so excited to be back on the trailhead with all of you, supporting the Raleigh area endurance community every Saturday morning between July 12 - August 23 on the American Tobacco Trail at New Hope Church Road.
Along with the most AMAZING local business partners and community sponsors, we will be out there each Saturday morning providing ice cold towels, hydration, physical therapy and/or massage therapy, chocolate milk, and fun raffle prizes, and MORE!
It truly is a really big fun run party with the purpose of making the sweltering hot, humid and sweaty runs and bike rides more enjoyable for everyone no matter who you are or what you’re training for! ☀️ 😎 💦 👟 🎉

It’s that time of year when fall marathons don’t seem *so* far off as you begin your training blocks!
Are you racing a fall marathon?? If a fall marathon is in your sights, these are the start dates that would mark both a 16- and 20-week buildup. The length of training varies tremendously based on many factors, and a coach is a valuable resource in helping you decide which length will be best for you to get to your start and finish line ready, healthy, and excited to reach your goals! Our coaches will help you capitalize on your summer training, welcome you into the awesome Pace of Me Community, adjust your training so that it works for YOU, as well as help hold you accountable throughout the block!
This list features marathons that are not part of the Majors, so they do not hold a lottery system. These are popular choices, but are absolutely not all the options. The talk of adjusting to these warmer temps isn’t over yet!
We are committed to being there for our athletes to have these important conversations, as they enable us to maximize the benefits of our training and recognize the hard work they are putting in.
On a team call this week, we chatted with Pace of Me athletes about ways to adjust to the rising temperatures and shared stories of what has worked for each other. We are all in this together, and it’s great to hear from our athletes!
As you adjust, a different number on the clock for pace than what you’re used to is 100% normal. In fact, if your pace doesn’t feel like you can hold an easy conversation, it’s too fast for the day. You can also switch to focusing more on HR throughout these summer months to stay in Zone 1/2. If you hit that Zone 3/Threshold, you are working too hard and not honoring the purpose of that easy run. You will be stronger because of these slowed down easy runs as it allows you to tackle the hard workouts with more efficiency and energy!

Take our advice: The 5k is awesome!
Let us be the first to tell you that training for shorter races doesn’t make you less of a runner. In fact, it’ll make you a STRONGER runner, a SMARTER racer, and a PROUD athlete. It can just make you feel gritty.
But have you wondered what types of workouts will help you train for a 5k? What else is important? Swipe to read some training tips we have for you if you are racing a 5k or curious about training for one!
✨Get short speedwork into the mix: Intervals or Pyramid-Style workouts help tap into those fast-twitch muscles!
✨Add hill strides/sprints to your routine: Hills help improve running economy and strengthen key muscle groups!
✨Don’t skip strength work: It’s essential! It helps improve your neuromuscular coordination and can decrease the risk of injury.

Only one more week of May!
As the end of another month quickly approaches, we creatively encourage you to set your intentions, running-related or not, for June. But what does that even mean?
Setting an intention means consciously deciding what you want to lean into, looking at how you can give yourself the time and space to determine what’s important to you and what gives you energy. It’s more than just setting a goal in our opinion.

Whether you love warm (hot??) weather running or not, it’s that time of year where we all need the reminder that it’s OKAY if certain paces feel harder than they should.
Humidity and dew point can make a major impact on how we feel while out for a run. This chart above helps break down dew point and the “feels” outside. There are even pace adjustment calculators you can search for to help you determine pace adjustments based on the temperature, humidity levels, and dew point. It is absolutely normal for paces to slow down but effort to stay the same.
It’s not you feeling out of shape! Summer can cause so many changes in how we feel- you aren’t in it alone!

Let’s chat about the in-between time!
We’ve already mentioned the benefits of rest after a race, but what do we do with this in-between time? How do we handle those post-race blues that people talk about? Why does social media make us feel like we’re doing our training all wrong?
Reality check: What works for someone else may not be your best approach… and that is a beautiful thing!
You know yourself best, and having a coach can be a beautiful addition to your thought-making process to step into the in-between season to think about why you want to set certain goals and plan out what could be next. And it’s OK if you don’t know what might be next.
Adapting your training from season to season not only can help you stay injury-free, but it also adds variety to your routine, making you a more resilient and flexible runner!
You have the courage to begin again. And you have the opportunity to make it new again in a way that makes you excited to get back to training!

The Spring racing season has been in full bloom recently with lots of races happening (and still more to come!). Whether you raced a marathon or a 5k, recovery is still just as essential in the process as the buildup to the race is. Below are just a few tips from us to help you navigate recovery and post-race. It may look different for everyone, but below are a few essentials:
*Continue to fuel & hydrate*
You might be done the race, but this assures you that you are replenishing glycogen storage, allowing muscles repair, and replacing electrolytes and minerals lost through sweat.
*Aim to get quality sleep*
Quality sleep allows the body to repair and rebuild damaged tissues, refills energy storage, and regulates hormones.
*Take a break from running and opt for active, light movement like walking*
Hot topic here, but you don’t need to jump right back into running. Everyone’s timeline of rest days after a race looks different, but do what is best for you and talk with your coach to decide what makes the most sense. Light movement like walking, will help work out some of the soreness while letting your muscles repair.
*Mobility and stretching*
On the opposite side of the spectrum, don’t just do nothing! Some movement, mobility work, and stretching are extremely beneficial to recovery time!
*Reflect before jumping into whatever is next*
The world of social media makes it look like everyone is jumping into another race right away or training again, but do not let their journey define what yours needs to look like. Reflect on your goals and what you want!
*Celebrate your achievement, even if it wasn’t what you hoped for*
Your training and race deserve to be celebrated! Your hard work matters, even if you came up short of your hopes and expectations.
